We were really excited when the Remote Indigenous Communication Association and Telstra asked us to develop a brand for a project that is really close to our hearts. inDigiMOB is a program being rolled out through the Northern Territory to get people better connected and improve digital literacy.
We began with the design brief and the knowledge that the brand had to be culturally appropriate or communities throughout the Northern Territory would not connect to the brand and the program. With a keen understanding from our previous works throughout the North Territory we decided to work with what we already knew.
That brands need to be culturally sound in it's visual representation and that they need to be visually compelling and new.
An important part of the brand creation was to balance it with already established community connectors, and eliminate cultural representations that might not be appropriate.
The brand also had to be symbolic of the use of digital technology for Indigenous people throughout communities in the Northern Territory and adaptable and recognisable in other remote regions.
We also created a colour palette that was a new and very iconic to the program and continued the use of these colours through the style guide and brand elements such as technology icons, program badges and pictorial elements.
Throughout the brand development we also ground tested it with a small focus group to ensure that were doing it correctly.
The symbol which represents the ‘InDigimob' brand is a contemporary iteration of age old symbols use throughout Central and Western Desert artworks. Visually this symbol represents the opportunities that the InDigimob brings to the communities throughout it's connected regions through shared knowledge and opportunity development in ITC.
The symbol at the top of the logo represents a campsite or a gathering location with the dot symbolising Indigenous participants in the InDigimob project.
The lower half of the symbol represents grow of this knowledge through the shared experiences of participants within there community. This symbol is built as stylised (Indigified) version of the Wi-Fi symbol which brings a recognisable digital connection to the 'inDigiMOB' brand.
